Crafting a Poolside Screen Room in Lake Barrington

Transforming outdoor spaces into beautiful and functional extensions of the home is what we do best at Craiger Custom Design. Platinum Poolcare brought us on board to add a stunning screen room designed to enhance a poolside area while maintaining harmony with the home’s architecture. This unique collaboration brought together natural materials, cutting-edge technology, and precise craftsmanship to deliver a space that’s as functional as it is breathtaking.

The Vision

The homeowners wished to have a poolside sanctuary where they could relax and entertain without being bothered by insects or the weather. The desire was for the structure to feel like a natural extension of their home, blending seamlessly with its style while offering modern functionality and a touch of luxury.

Bringing the Vision to Life

The project centered around creating a three-sided screen room attached to the house. This was no ordinary screen room—every detail was thoughtfully chosen to align with the home’s aesthetic and elevate the space’s overall design.

  • Natural Wood Materials with a Rustic Elegance
Custom cedar timbers were at the heart of the structure, adding warmth and character. Exposed timber rafters highlighted the craftsmanship and gave the screen room a rustic charm. These large timbers required strong yet understated support, which was expertly provided by brackets from Simpson/Strongtie.
  • Roofing and Gutters That Blend Seamlessly
The screen room was topped with a cedar shake roof, a timeless and durable choice, installed by Tim Cote, Inc. To ensure perfect harmony with the home, copper gutters were added, combining functionality with a high-end, polished look.
  • Modern Comforts with Motorized Screens
To give the homeowners control over their space, motorized screens were installed in aluminum frames. These screens, provided by Midwest Screens, allow the room to effortlessly transition from an open-air retreat to a fully enclosed space at the touch of a button. This feature makes the room versatile and enjoyable in any weather.

Crafting the Perfect Fit

Every project comes with its own challenges, and this was no different. Planning and permitting took careful coordination, spanning six months from start to finish. The large cedar timbers required custom brackets to ensure both stability and aesthetic appeal, a task that was masterfully handled by Simpson/Strongtie. Collaboration with Tim Cote, Inc. and Midwest Screens ensured every element came together seamlessly, resulting in a space that exceeded expectations.

A Stunning Transformation

As can be seen in these photos, the poolside area underwent a remarkable transformation. The homeowners can now enjoy their pool area year-round, whether hosting friends or simply unwinding in the serene atmosphere of their new screen room.
