Deck Maintenance

A deck is a great addition to any home, providing extra space for entertaining, relaxing, and enjoying the outdoors. However, decks require regular maintenance to stay in good condition. Here are some tips for keeping your deck in tip-top shape:

Inspect your deck regularly for signs of wear and tear, such as cracked or splintered boards. Repair any damage promptly to prevent further deterioration.
Sweep your deck regularly to remove dirt, leaves, and other debris. If you have a power washer, you can use it to clean your deck once or twice a year. Be sure to use a gentle setting and hold the wand at least 12 inches from the surface of the wood.
Apply a fresh coat of sealer or stain every one to two years. This will help protect the wood from moisture and UV damage.

Do I need a permit to build a deck?

While all local zoning codes are different, we suggest checking with your contractor or zoning board before you make a decision about a deck. But YES you almost always need a permit.

Should I use a grill mat to protect my deck?

The short answer is yes, you should always use a flame/heat resistant mat to protect your deck and home from embers and fire.

Can I run a gas line to my grill that is on the deck?

Yes, you can, but we suggest working with your local gas supplier and contractor to complete the job.

Will Composite decking fade?

Yes, composite decking does fade over time but there are stains available for composite materials that work great.
